Things started out flawlessly for Hayden. His family had a gorgeous home in a wealthier part of Orlando, his mom and dad's restaurant business was booming, and his older sister was a talented, popular journalist working for a fashion magazine in New York City. Hayden himself was showing incredible talent and promise in the arts, specifically music. Life was perfect.
But things don't stay perfect for long.
Alicia had just returned home from work. It had been a long day, and it was late, almost 1:30 AM. Hayden was in bed already, and David had stayed behind at the restaurant a little late to sort out some final business. But, despite the late hour, the phone rang. More confused then anything, Alicia dropped her bags and ran to the phone, the panic that was on the edge of her mind never fully reaching her consciousness.
The doctor spoke the last words she would ever hear. "There's been a fire..." He then proceeded to tell Alicia that there had been a fire in the building that her daughter, Melody, had worked in. Emergency service had been on the scene as fast as they could. "Mrs. MacRae, we tried everything we could here to save her--" he began, but his words were cut off as the phone slipped from Alicia's fingers, shattering on the floor. Without even thinking, she took off up the stairs, the agony and pain not even setting in, only one thing on her mind.
David came home just before 2:30, trying to be as quiet as he could in the dark household. He made his way sleepily upstairs to the bathroom, to live his usual nightly ritual. Flicking on the light, he froze in the doorway, a scream erupting from his lips. From the silver bar that wrapped around the top of the shower hung Alicia, her body pale and limp, her neck burned raw from the friction of the rope.
Things only went downhill from there.
Unable to deal with the pain of losing two of the most precious things in his life, David turned to alcohol for his pain, to soothe his soul. Within weeks, he was heavily addicted, and deteriorating quickly. Blaming Hayden for the death of his mother, he let out his anger and pain with his fist, using his son as his favourite punching bag. Unable to handle it, Hayden started turning into a dark child. He became quiet, and standoffish, drifting away from any particular friends in school. His temper got shorter and shorter, and as he grew, he was a danger to anyone and everyone who happened to be the target of his wrath.
Finally, one day, things got to be too much. Whenever Hayden arrived home with his lip pierced, his father went over the edge, screaming and destroying everything in sight. Responding accordingly, Hayden attacked the man, years of pent-up rage and pain numbing his mind to the severity of what he was doing. A neighbor heard the screaming and yelling, and phoned the police, who prompty whisked Hayden away before he could kill the man. Too young to be sent to jail, Hayden was sent to DSA, where he is undergoing anger management for his temper. Only time will tell how he'll end up.
